
Júlio Pereira was born in 1978 in Carvoeira, a small village on the west coast of Portugal, between the Serra de Sintra and the waves of Ericeira and the historic convent of Mafra.
It was in his father’s butchers, in his grandfather’s gardens and in his mother’s kitchen that it all began. In its gene is engraved the essence of the product and its season. In his customs and experiences his passion for cooking would lead him to the Estoril Hotel School in 1993.
With the chef jacket he ran and “ate” the world, passing through Italy where he worked at the Hotel Principe di Piemonte in Torino; Spain with Chef Sergi Arola; Brazil; Angola at the opening of the first 5-star hotel in the country and in Sao Tome and Principe, at the BomBom Hotel in Príncipe island.
In 2013, with the birth of his daughter Maria, he came to Madeira Island. The quality of life and the excellent environment had already won him by the turn of the millennium.
It was there, in December 2018, in the heart of Funchal, Kampo by Chef Júlio Pereira was born. With this new restaurant, he brought the meat and ground products that accompanied him since childhood in the village of the west of Portugal. Kampo is a small and cosy restaurant where all these years’ experiences come together with a team of young promises.
The concept quickly conquered the palate of the people from Madeira and many tourists visiting the island. In July 2019 Júlio “dip” to a new adventure: Akua by Chef Júlio Pereira, which is located on the same street, bringing the flavours of the sea and his childhood. in Ericeira.
